Fees & Payment Policies

There are three components to the fees for microsurgical vasectomy reversal: the ambulatory surgery center, the anesthesiologist, and the surgeon’s fees. Dr. Finnerty has worked with both the hospital and anesthesiologists to help keep your costs as affordable and predictable as possible.

Every effort has been made to make reversal surgery as affordable as possible for our patients. Please be aware that the pricing for anesthesia and ambulatory care center services are not established by Dr. Finnerty, but are determined by anesthesia and the hospital based on the respective costs of providing those services. They may therefore be subject to change without notice.

In order to keep costs as low as possible, all services must be paid in full at or before the time of your surgery.

Ambulatory Surgery Center

St. Josephs Hospital Outpatient Surgical Center is currently charging $1736 for the cost of the ambulatory surgical center for vasectomy reversal surgery. This price is fixed and independent of the type of surgery performed (simple or complicated reversal), the length of time in surgery, or supplies used. Payment in full is required by the hospital at the time of the surgery.

Anesthesiologist

Pacific Anesthesia at St. Joseph’s Hospital currently charges $875 for anesthesia services for reversal surgery. This price is fixed and independent of the type of surgery performed. Payment in full before the time of surgery is required; they request that payment be made one week prior if possible.

Surgical Fees

Until recently, different surgical fees were charged based on the complexity of surgery. Many patients found this confusing, as the need for more complex repairs on the epididymis could not be determined until the time of surgery, making it difficult to plan ahead for the total cost of the surgery. Furthermore, recent developments in successful epididymal repair and its favorable impact on fertility have led to a much higher percentage of patients benefiting from this more complex surgery.

Effective September 1st, 2007, a single fee of $2400 for surgery, regardless of complexity. Hence the total cost for anesthesia, hospital services, and surgeon’s fees is $5011.

Payment in full at the time of surgery is required. We accept Mastercard & VISA. Cashiers checks and money orders are also welcome; personal checks will be accepted, but there is a substantial penalty for returned checks.

Other Expenses

In general, healthy patients will not require any lab or other diagnostic studies prior to anesthesia. This is at the discretion of the anesthesiologist at the time of your surgery, however. If additional tests such as blood work, cardiogram, or x-rays are required for the safety of your procedure, additional costs may be incurred which are not listed above.

The above costs do not include the expense of postoperative prescriptions, medical supplies, or semen analysis tests or other lab work to evaluate your fertility after surgery. Any office visits for problems or concerns related to the surgery are included up to 90 days after surgery.

If you have any questions on these costs or our financial policies, feel free to contact our office for further information.
